Yarraman Heritage Centre

A snapshot of life in the early 1900’s is in store for visitors to Yarraman Heritage Centre.

Set on two and three quarter acres in the heart of Yarraman, the centre comprises eight historic buildings, including what was once a Sisters of Mercy Convent. This two story building is a beautiful example of its time – the internal walls are stained tongue and groove crows ash timber. Visitors will also find the Yarraman Railway Station, Arthur Brown’s Butcher Shop, a typical slab hut circa-1921 , and a farmer’s cottage circa-1930.

You’ll also find a restaurant and bar, a cellar door offering wine tasting of local wines, a community resource centre, public access internet terminals and a Visitor Information Centre.

The ground level contains cultural museum displays; ‘Wooden Wealth’, the history of timber in the district; Tarong Energy display, the history of the town’s first power house; the Beersheba Room, a military memorabilia display featuring a bugle used in the Light Horse Charge at Beersheba in 1917 and an Art Gallery featuring the work of a local artist each month.

Take a picnic to enjoy in the ‘Australian Area,’ an acre of natural scrub walk ways and free barbecue facilities.

    Yarraman Caravan Park and Cabins

Yarraman Caravan Park and Cains is within walking distance of the friendly Queensland country township of Yarraman and is an excellent base to take in the local attractions of the South Burnett, including the Bunya Mountains and Palms National Parks, Wineries and the Kingaroy Astronomical Observatory.

Guests can bushwalk from the caravan park along a network of marked forest trails through state forests and bushland. Yarraman is the rail head for the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail which is suitable for walking/mountain bikes/horses.

Yarraman and the South Burnett offer visitors a wealth of attractions including historical sites and museums, and wineries, bird watching, fishing, gold fossicking, four wheel driving and trail and mountain bike riding.

The caravan park is set amid a range of flower gardens, palms and native trees, on high ground away from the noise of the highway, and has panoramic views over the surrounding countryside.

Yarraman Caravan Park features a swimming pool, free barbecues, playground, camp kitchen, campfire area, private campfire sites, LPG refilling and kiosk. Drive-through caravan sites are also available. Clean and comfortable cabins are available for overnight or longer term.

      Two Bakeries Bike Ride

Earlier this month the team from Eat Well Travel Often took to the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail to visit 2 bakeries in the South Burnett (Blackbutt and Yarraman).

It’s a long way to go for a pie but the team enjoyed themselves and took some of the sights of the South Burnett.
