Kilkivan to Kingaroy Rail Trail - South Burnett

QUEENSLAND RAIL TRAILS

Explore the South Burnett under your own steam

The South Burnett is home to two rail trails, including Australia’s longest rail trail, the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail. At 161km, the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail is the longest rail trail in Australia and takes in the sections from Ipswich to Moore in the Ipswich region, and from Moore to Yarraman in the South Burnett.  The trail traverses farmland, forests, picturesque rural settings and country towns.

In the South Burnett, you can wander around the Old Linville and Nukku Station buildings and imagine the hustle and bustle of the platforms back in the early to mid 1900s when the line was at its peak use. Visit the Tent School site at MacNamara’s Camp, where the men who were building the railway sent their children to attend school, or take in one of the museums and galleries in some of the quaint towns.

Travelling North to South is the easier option, with less uphill sections of the Rail Trail, however there are sections in both directions to suit all ages and fitness levels.
